I read a book a few years back called So Good They Can't Ignore You. In it Cal Newport outlines four key factors that lead to fulfilling work:
Autonomy – The ability to control your time and work on your own terms.
Competence – Becoming highly skilled in your field, which leads to recognition and a sense of mastery.
Relatedness – Building meaningful relationships and connections in your work.
Impact – Doing work that matters and contributes to something larger than yourself.
Newport introduces the idea of the “craftsman mindset”, where instead of chasing passion, you focus on deliberate practice and skill-building to create career capital—valuable abilities that give you leverage to negotiate better work conditions, more autonomy, and fulfilling opportunities.
The culture both at Ideals and at Happy Ratio fits all these four key factors. This is why I believe that I love working so much.
Money is important but money + these four factors make you unstoppable.
